Technopersonal: Too much spam from Google Groups but can't leave the Group? Try this

Required: Google groups, Gmail with new tabbed interface

Define the objective
The situation: you have joined some Google groups and you do receive important mails from the group sent by select senders. However more often than not, you receive junk mails from the group. Objective is to unclutter the main inbox and receive notifications only for important mails received from these groups.

Measure
The junk emails received have been growing exponentially.

Analyze
It's frustrating to get notifications of such mails only to check that you have nothing to do with the mail's content. It's time something was done.

Improve
In Gmail, add tabs for "Forums" :

This will put all mails which you receive from groups, under the Forums tab and you won't get a notification for it(on phone, desktop...), but just a nice little label on the tab itself that there are unread mails. However, we want to get notifications for mails received on the group from select senders, for this we will create a filter:

Put the Google groups in "Has the words" field (use OR to join groups)and people who send important mail on those groups in "From" field(use OR to join email-ids). See the format in the image above.

Proceed to the next screen and click "Update Filter":
